Thinking of joining Nippers? Well don’t wait any longer! Come and join in.
“The youth of today are the future of Surf Life Saving tomorrow”.
Our Nipper program is open to children aged 5 to 13 years, offering a program focussing on participation and fun with surf and sand activities designed to develop surf awareness skills and surf education.
Children are taught how to respect and read the surf and to use it to their advantage. These valuable skills and surf safety knowledge will prepare them for the next stage of Surf Life Saving.
Surf Life Saving has served the Australian community for over 100 years with Nippers being an important and growing movement of the organisation with over 58,000 nippers Australia wide. The Nipper program provides a place where children can have fun, meet new friends and gain valuable surf skills and knowledge whilst being in a safe and controlled environment.
Nippers is the start of an educational pathway program that mentors our youth into the cadets program before undertaking the Bronze Medallion award and other senior awards.
Getting involved with the Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club Nippers has something for the whole family. It is a great place to meet new friends over a coffee on a Sunday morning and interact with the community. There are also many supporting roles that you can play as a parent of a child involved in Port Macquarie Surf Life Saving Club Nippers.
Our Nipper program builds children’s self-confidence, personal development as well as improving their ability to work within a team. Many children feel a sense of accomplishment as their skills and abilities increase throughout the season. The children encourage and cheer each other on in surf and sand events and work together toward new challenges each week.
Our Nipper season generally runs from October through until the end of March. Training days are held on a Sunday morning at Flynns Beach between 8:30am and 10:30am and include events such as:
* sand events (flags and sprints);
* open water events (swim, wade, and board paddling);
Also, throughout the season there is an opportunity for the children interested to participate in Club Championship days, a friendly competition against their fellow nippers within their age groups. These events demonstrate how much progress a nipper has made and also allows their inner competitive side to shine as they battle it out for club points!
Please see the Nipper Calendar below for further information on these days.
